I don't even think I've opened Team Fortress 2, 10,000 times, and I have close to 4,000 hours in that game, actual playedīut you're absolutely right, some of these achievements are bunk, and its not just isolated to this game, I can count so many ill-thought out achievements that I just have to wonder, WTF are valve thinking by not curating this closely.“Universe Sandbox is in active development and has become a fully-featured, stable, and smooth-running space simulator. No offence but you're kinda telling me how eggs are sucked, I didn't for one minute think that someone had sat there and open this game 10,000 times to get an achievement Originally posted by Combustable Lemonaide: They're cheesing/cheating for it either way. Nobody is actually engaging in what its asking the user to do. I'd say the people who maxed out the highest "start the game x times" used a script to just start stop the game (possibly even something as simple as enabling the steam client to stay on top of other windows, and an auto clicker to open/close the game) and cheated for it anyhow.īoth achievements are bunk for that reason. A few percentage points in the CPU use when tabbed out on most rigs (when cryptomining is pulled off GPU anyhow, its not a burden really). If you're doing that, its almost zero difference in energy use. I'd say about 90% or more of those with the one year achievement run it in the background while they mined bitcoin. Why would anyone waste electricity for an achievement? That's dumb. Hopefully it can be adjusted, because this particular achievment, play for a year, is just a waste of perfectly good electricity, no offence meant against the game Valve decided to add achievements, its their babyĮDIT: I saw the post from the Dev saying it was a mistake on reflection. ![]() I once saw another game, I guess it was a kickstarter game, and the achievement was be an early kickstarter funder, well FFS I'd need a time machine to complete that achievement Originally posted by FlamingDeath:I kinda wish Valve had maybe provided some guidelines of what achievements are meant to bring to the party, I had assumed additional gameplay value and thats the obvious applicationīut for some games, the achievements have been used and abusedĬivilisations forces DLC specific achievements into your achievements list for DLC you do not even own People who idled mining rigs and used scripts (see "cheating") to open/close/open the game have no valid reason to whine. Paradox Interactive is constantly moving the goalposts of achievements to be more difficult and breaking saves when they drop more DLC, I see nothing "wrong" about reducing the requirements for a couple achievements to a level you think is appropriate. These are your games, if you think reducing the threshold is the right thing to do, go for it. ![]() Letting a handful of bros who ran this almost assuredly while mining bitcoin whine that they put some sort of "effort" into it to push you around when you would prefer to change it would be disappointing. If you say it was a mistake and want to change it you have every right to do so. Side note to creator if he's still watching the thread, one could theoretically modify the achievements to lesser amounts. I've been subscribed to this thread for well over the year needed for the achievement and this was the first time I legit laughed. Remember when used the processing power and energy of over a million computers to attempt to detect intelligent life outside Earth? This games's achievements are exactly like that project except with the goal of proving the lack of intelligence on Earth. reasonable and logical, or just have them removed entirely? Is there no way for you to change the achievements of running the game for 1 month/1 year, and opening the game 1k/10k times to something more.
